The Covered Bridge is Indiana's most famous covered bridge
The covered bridge crosses over the mill pond created by the mill dam. It is just above the waterfall over the dam. I like to call it the “Dam Waterfall”. Having a covered bridge over a waterfall makes it Indiana’s Most Famous Covered bridge. The dam is nine feet tall and 225 feet long. The dam is covered end to end only during high water. It is in bad shape. The covered bridge is 267 feet long. (The postcards say 245 feet). It is a double span Burr Arch built by J.J. Daniels in 1868. The bridge was “Set Aside” or closed to traffic in 1968. Of course, at the end of the dam sets the Historic Bridgeton Mill.
