Rebuild the Bridge

Rebuild the Bridge
The meeting for rebuilding the bridge was held 12/14/05. (Last weeks meeting was cancelled because of snow.) Apex Masonry put in a bid of $22, 720. for rebuilding the two abutments and the center pier. They are going to dismantle the stacks of stone down to grade, repair and / or replace what is broken, and then restack them. Of course if they have to go below grade it will cost more. We believe this is a very good bid and decided to give them the go ahead. When will they start? Don’t know yet. I’ll let you know as soon as I find out.
The Timber Framers Guild is still interested and Jim Meece (Parke County Commissioner) is going to ask them for a bid. If the Guild agrees to build the bridge and we accept their bid we will be looking for housing and food for the members of the Guild. Blanche Case has volunteered to coordinate the meals. If you would like to help you can call her at 765-548-2136
A lot of folks have donated a lot of stuff. Paint, shingles, metal, trees, sawing …etc. have been offered. We are going to start getting contracts and making sure what is actually donated.
A groundbreaking ceremony is being planned for January 12, 2006 at 4:00. This could change so check back occasionally.

If you would like to make a donation and help pay for the abutment work … go to rebuildthebridge.com

Thank You

This history of rebuilding the bridge is fascinating. I’m so grateful you recorded the history here for people to enjoy. Do you ever require pressure washing on the bridge? I’d love to help out, albeit these services are based in Victoria BC: http://www.pressurewashpro.ca/services
